I recently got a graphics tablet. I am using it with the draw feature on microsoft word. However, when i try to save the hand written document the dialog box for save as keeps popping up. I did some research and it said it might be caused by addins but I have no custom addins. My question is if this is the normal behavior of the program?

After activating the draw tab.

  • I am able to use the mouse to draw
  • I am able to save the document that I create by writing.

Thank you for the help.

    • I now realize I am missing my entire draw tab. This means I cannot use a mouse to draw. I must have the graphics tablet attached to draw on the document. So I will try to see if my problems lies there.
    • When I type in the document and save the document saves normally. If I reopen that document and then write in the document I am able to save it.
    • If I type and then write in the document it does not save I get the looping save as dialog box.
    • If I write in the document and then try to save I am getting the looping save as dialog box
    • Currently to get documents to save I open a new document, save the document and then start writing. I have no issues saving the document this way. This is why I was wondering if this is how it is supposed to work.

    Hi KevinOudai,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

From your description, it seems that you are using Microsoft Word and graphics tablet together. However, you found it keeps appearing Save as windows.

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, we have also tested it on our side with the latest version of Word without using graphics tablet, and we cannot reproduce the same situation as yours.

Given this situation, to narrow down if this issue is related to graphics tablet, we’d suggest you not use graphics tablet and you can use mouse to draw in Word to check if the same problem will occur. If the same problem still persists without using graphics tablet, this issue may be related to Word itself. And we will give you some suggestions below and hope that will help you:

    1. We’d suggest you refer to this article: Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps to achieve the latest version of Office. Then you can update your Office to the latest version to check if the same problem will occur.
    2. You can open your Word in safe mode to check if the same problem will occur. As steps shown below: Right-click the Start button (lower-left corner) in Windows, and click Run.> In the Run box, type one of the command: winword /safe
    3. You can use Online Repair to fix the Office application. Repair an Office application.

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial suggestions may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, Please kindly provide more information below to let us work further.

    1. May I know if all files have the same problem? We’d suggest you create a new Word file to check if the same problem will occur.
    2. Could you provide the Product Information and version of Word? You can go to Word > File > Account and provide the full screenshot of Account page.
    3. May I know if the other Office applications have the same problem? You can test with PowerPoint to check if the same problem will occur.
    4. May I know if you will encounter the same problem when you use mouse instead of graphics tablet?

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope you have a safe and a Happy New Year.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
