the current infra have everything on prem and they are just taking first step towards cloud and they are currently using on prem excahnge 2016 and would like to have intune to manage the mobile devices going forward. With latest updates HMA would be the right solution to establish this, however could somebody please help me with the right document/prerequisite check that can help me understand what needs to be verified and ensured from exchange for mobile devices to have mail access with MAM policies.

@svjs-0437 Thanks for posting in our Q&A.

For this issue, I have done a lot of research. I find that HMA enables both Intune App Protection Policies (also known as MAM) and Conditional Access through Outlook Mobile for Exchange on-premises.

If we want to use HMA, it is needed to meet the prerequisites in the following article:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/enterprise/hybrid-modern-auth-overview?view=o365-worldwide#do-you-meet-modern-authentication-prerequisites

Hope the above information will help.

For details on using MAM policies see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/apps/app-protection-policy.

Note that this has nothing to do with MDM management of the devices though. Whether you have on-prem exchange or not is irrelevant when it comes to device management.
