All of a sudden every time I go to write an email in Outlook, the text defaults to bold which is very annoying because I have to turn off bold every time. I checked with Microsoft held and it tells me that it can be altered through Word, but I can't figure out how to do it. Help please!

The straightforward solution (that is, the one that does not require messing with template) should work in most cases. :-)

I'm glad you got it sorted.

Try the settings for stationery and fonts, as Ron suggested.

If everything else fails, what you can do is open the Outlook template, NormalEmail.dotm, in Word and change its document defaults. Be sure to open the template for editing (do not create a document based on the template).

Ron's suggestion worked, so thanks, Stephan, for the alternative solution.
