Powerpoint - Zero Bytes, All Content Gone

I was finishing up a Powerpoint deck and it wouldn't let me save it. So I hit "don't save", thinking I could just redo some of the work I just put on it, and it emptied out the entire deck - it's zero bytes and all I see is a gray slide. I need to recover this doc!

    Hi Joseph

If you had saved the deck at least once, that version is still where you saved it. If you never saved the deck, there is northing to recover.

    Hi Joseph Zerbo

Thanks for posting the thread on our forum.

According to your description, it seems that your PowerPoint couldn’t save and became zero bytes, you want to recover your documents.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue. I understand how you feel now and how important the contents are.

I would like to share these methods with you, you can have a try to find it back:

    1. If you turn on the AutoRecover Feature, you can find the file you unsaved. You can find the location in the path referred in this article:Recover files in Office for Mac (microsoft.com)
    2. If your presentation is stored in the cloud location like OneDrive or SharePoint.
    • Open the presentation
    • Select the name of the document on the title bar of the application, then select Browse Version History.
    • Select a version to open it in a separate window to check if you can find.
    1. In addition, if the presentation is saved previously on your Mac, you can use Time Machine to restore your Mac to state where presentation contains with data: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support
    2. If you have tried the suggestions above and still cannot find the documents, we’re afraid that your documents may have been lost. We’re sorry about it。

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated!

    Regards,

    Stacey
