Word documents fragmented

Hello, my Word documents become visually fragmented and unusable while working on them. This was happening so much that I bought a new PC to rectify this issue, but exactly the same thing is happening. I am an editor and work on Word documents all the time so I need Word to function. Is this a programme error?

I have already carried out an online repair but this has had no effect. Please advise/help.

What happens if you restart your computer?

If you are using the 32-bit version of Office, try switching to the 64-bit version.

You could, in Excel or Powerpoint options disable hardware graphics acceleration. (Changing in one of these programs applies it to all Office program.)

What is the grid of images that are showing between the numbered lines of text?

    .

Did you try changing the hardware acceleration options?

    .

Have you tried opening the file in Word Online?

Have you tried opening the file on another computer?

    .

Can you make a copy of the file. Cut out most of the contents out, leaving just a couple of pages.

Upload Example - Share via “Personal” OneDrive File

There is no way to upload example files directly to this forum.

Trouble shooting problems using this text only forum can be like a visit to the dentist without anesthetics: a long, slow painful process of us trying to “extract” the clues needed to recognize the problem in a back and forth flow of questions and answers so that we hopefully can eventually come up with a / “the” solution.
    .

Often it is faster and easier for everyone if we have a “sample file(s)” get "hands on", to look at, and to “play with”. There are a couple of advantages of providing example files:

. * we have exactly the same data you are describing,

. * if your problem requires merging multiple files, we can work with that

. * you will often get different suggestions from users with points of view and experience.
    .

This next link provides some tips on setting up a sample file and specific instructions for uploading and "sharing" it for us to access:

The above article includes links to a macros to randomize text in Word and Excel
    .

Note: make sure to upload to your Personal (consumer) OneDrive rather than your work OneDrive or SharePoint. Files in the Work cloud can be hard to share due to security restrictions placed by the work admins. Or use any other free storage service (anything other than business OneDrive or SharePoint).

    Hi ADLAP,

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue!

I am Bhavik, a Microsoft user like you. Please note, I am not a Microsoft employee and don’t have direct access to your account, but I will do everything I can to help you with your queries. :)

Can you please share the screenshot of how does it look?

Also, please try opening Word in safe mode to see if that issue is still there. Execute below mentioned command in Run window, to get the Run window, press Windows + R keys

    winword /safe

    Let me know the outcome.

    Thanks

    Bhavik

Can you make a screen capture of the problem, and past it in a reply here.

    .

Your partial description sounds like it may be a "hardware acceleration" issue. Try changing your current hardware accel settings

    Hardware Acceleration in Office

MS is in the process of removing user control of Hardware Acceleration. But the setting applies to all of the Office apps, so if you don’t find it in the Options for app you are having problems with, try looking in the other Office applications .
