Excel and Word errors that prevent the programs from working correctly

I am constantly getting a message in Excel and Word that "We're sorry, but [Excel] has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. [Excel] will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now? This seems to have started back in November or December when I upgraded to Windows 11. Around the same time, I think I renewed or upgraded a McAfee Personal Security app. At that time I was running Office 2016 for Home and Student. The error message would sometimes appear very soon after opening the program and other times just days later. Since then I have: verified that I had no non-Office add-ins; done a quick repair and a full online repair of Office (several times); opened Excel, signed out of my Microsoft account and then signed back in; removed Office 2016 (which by then was saying it was an Unlicensed Product) and purchased a new subscription to Office 365; and today I ran a repair of the McAfee app. The error message is still coming in both normal and safe mode, and now it is showing up within minutes of opening a file, regardless of whether it is a simple new test file or one I have been using for many years.

Thanks for your assistance. Here is an update: I performed the online repair again but the repair now error messages persisted. Then I noticed that Word and Powerpoint were opening under my wife's account referencing a version of Office that was not installed on my computer, so I switched accounts and ran the online repair process again-the error messages persisted. So next I uninstalled Office, restarted the computer and then re-installed Office. Word and Excel seemed to work fine for 2-3 days although I consistently got the same repair now message every time I tried to open a Powerpoint document. Then the error messages started appearing in Word and Excel again-sometimes within minutes of opening and other times hours later. So I ran the online repair process again (it typically took two efforts for Office to be fully installed). Then today when I tried to use Excel I was prompted to log in to Windows Security and then to log-in or enable or whatever d.docs.live.net. I did both using my Microsoft account information. The errors persisted so I just uninstalled Office, restarted the computer and reinstalled Office for the 3rd or 4th or 5th time in the past ten days. Within minutes of opening any of these programs I get the same message: We're sorry, but [Excel or Word or Powerpoint] has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Excel will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?

I had tried the online repair for Office repair once or twice with the previous Office 2016 program with no success. As I mentioned, I just upgraded to a new Office 365 subscription this week to try to fix the problem but that did not work either. I ran the Office online repair last evening on Office 365 which had just been downloaded 3-4 days earlier. I am getting the same repair error message in Word within a few minutes of opening a file. I have had several Excel files open overnight without a problem, but I am not overly confident that will continue given what is happening with Word.

    Hi

My name is André. I am an independent consultant.

This symptom may represent an error in the excel configuration files or in their libraries, initially recommended is to perform a repair.

If you haven't tried it yet, you can try the following procedure

1- Click on the Windows "start" icon (bottom-left corner of your screen).

    2-Click on "Settings". ...

    3-Click on "Apps". ...

4-Select "Microsoft Office" (or "Microsoft Excel" if you do not have the full Office installation).

    5-Click "Modify".

    6-Choose "Online Repair".

Answer here so I can continue helping you.

    André.
