Uploading an image to Excel Spreadsheet cell without using "insert picture"

Hello,

My job field involves a lot of project management and remote oversight of technicians in the IT field. I have custom spreadsheet templates that I copy and send out to the technician/engineer that I will be overseeing. It is basic question/task and answer format. My technicians also are required to submit photos of the sites they are surveying. The technicians in the field use the office 365 and excel apps on their smart phones, tablets, and sometimes have a laptop with excel and o365 installed. So, bare that in mind when answering my questions below. The primary objective is to allow a tech in the field to easily upload an image into a cell without having to go through (Insert > insert picture > etc....). See the specific questions below please:

1. If it is possible, how can I format specific cells to allow the technicians to click a button or have some type of formatting for separate, specific cells that allow them to easily click the button or simply click into each specified cell to upload an image?

2. Is it possible to click/drag an image from file explorer, desktop, documents, etc... and merge/save the image into a cell on the spreadsheet?

For example (Imagine this table were rows/columns in Excel)

Ex. 1 row - under "IMAGES" column I added where we want to have a button or have some way to easily upload an image

Ex. 2 row - This is how it would look after uploading an image to the cell

LOCATION TASK NOTES IMAGES
(Ex. 1) BOH rack location Installing network rack equipment and patch panels -Installed the patch panels and cables<br><br>-No issues to report [Upload image or click & drag to add/save image] #theoretical button or item to click in a cell that will allow for uploading/saving an image to this cell#
(After adding image) BOH rack location Installing network rack equipment and patch panels -Installed the patch panels and cables<br><br>-No issues to report
--- --- --- ---

Thanks for any and all help on this in advance!

    Hi Bryce_ZX

Thanks for posting the thread on our forum.

According to your description, it seems that you want to upload the picture in a specific cell in Excel sheet not use the insert function.

    1. If my understanding is correct, you can use the VBA code to insert the picture in your Excel sheet. You can follow the directions in this article: How to Insert Pictures Using Excel VBA (exceltip.com)

    2. For your second question: Is it possible to click/drag an image from file explorer, desktop, documents, etc... and merge/save the image into a cell on the spreadsheet?

We did a test on our end, we can’t drag/click an image directly to the Excel sheet. We just can click insert>then select a picture from the desktop, fie explorer or documents to save it to the sheet. But in this way, the picture in the sheet will  occupy a lot of cells, not in a specific cell.

If my understanding is incorrect, please feel free to post back, we'll continue to help you .

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Stacey
