Slides comments won't save

Anonymous

Every time I try to add a comment to a slide, it won't save. I've tried clicking the little arrow and cmd+enter. When I hit either the comment disappears. I've tried saving comments on multiple files and this happens on all of them. I'm not sure what has changed because I've never had this issue before.

For reference, I'm using PPT for Mac, version 16.53.

    Thanks, Suki.

I deleted the folder you suggested however I still wasn't able to get my comments to post/save in either existing or new PPTs.

I have not yet tried a clean start-up but can do that.

In the meantime, I've reverted to "Classic Comments" and that seems to be working. (I am able to post/save comments) So I'm using that as a workaround for now.

    As for your other questions:

    1. Could you provide the version of Mac OS? Big Sur 11.6
    2. May I know if this issue occurs on PowerPoint for web? You can upload your file to OneDrive online then open in PowerPoint Online to check if the same problem will occur. It seems like modern comments work in the web version, but not the desktop version.
    3. Except for those old files, may I know if new file has the same problem? You can create a new PowerPoint file to check if the same problem will occur. Same response as above in that it seems like modern comments work in the web version, but not the desktop version.

    Hi Jennifer_Z_,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

From your description, it seems that your PowerPoint will not save your comments. All of those files have the same problem. And we also appreciate that you posted back and shared the detailed steps.

Given this situation, we have also tested it with the latest version of PowerPoint 16.53, and we cannot reproduce the same situation as yours. Since you mentioned multiple files have the same problem, this issue may be related to PowerPoint client.

And we will give you some suggestions below and hope that will help you:

    1. If you are using Big Sur, we’d suggest you try to remove folder : ~/Library/Containers/Microsoft PowerPoint(press command +shift +G and enter the route to go the folder) to remove corrupt caches of the app and check the result. If you are using Catalina, we’d suggest you try to remove folder : ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.PowerPoint(press command +shift +G and enter the route to go the folder) to remove corrupt caches of the app and check the result.
    2. We’d suggest you try a clean startup on your Mac and then try to open Word app again. This can help you troubleshoot whether it is caused by third-party software. How to use a "clean startup" to determine whether background program are interfering with Office for Mac

At the same time, to narrow down this issue, could you also provide the information below?

    1. Could you provide the version of Mac OS?
    2. May I know if this issue occurs on PowerPoint for web? You can upload your file to OneDrive online then open in PowerPoint Online to check if the same problem will occur.
    3. Except for those old files, may I know if new file has the same problem? You can create a new PowerPoint file to check if the same problem will occur.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

Sure thing. I've attached two screenshots. The first screenshot is the comment box I see when I go to add a comment. After entering a comment, if I hit "enter" I get a carriage return. If I hit the arrow, the comment disappears.

The second screenshot shows the message I get when I try to make a change on the slide without having "posted" my comment - but again, it's not letting me post my comment.

Exactly what steps are you taking?

Please explain what "little arrow" you're referring to.

Why are you using Command+return? That's the keyboard shortcut for switching to Slide Show View. It has nothing to do with Comments.

Can you provide a screen shot to illustrate the issue?
