Paste Special - Linked Text Between 2 Documents

Anonymous

I attempted to use linked text to update a second Word document. I copied the text from the source, put my cursor in the second document, selected Paste Special, then selected Paste Link, selected Formatted Text RTF and then clicked OK.

I then went to the source doc to test and added the word APPLE and saved it. Nothing happened to the 2nd document.

What else should I have done, please?

Thank you

Can you update the content if you click in the OLE object and press F9?

Also, what are the settings for updating OLE links in the document? Add the Edit Links to Files icon Image to your Quick Access Toolbar and use it to access the corresponding dialog box:

To add Edit Links To File to the Quick Access Toolbar, use File > Options > Quick Access Toolbar (see screen shot below). You'll find the command in the "All Commands" category.

Closing and re-opening the target document should display the updated content from the source.

In addition, note that since you have linked part of a source document, any edits must be done within that linked/bookmarked range. You have probably already considered this factor.

Thanks so much for your reply.

I closed the target document and re-opened it. However, the information did not change. It remains the same. Can you think of anything else?

    Thank you
