How to save shortcut of shared Excel in file explore.

My business uses Microsoft 365 to do a lot of work and some times it is collaborative. Our collaborative files are typically shared with each other though one drive. I like to work in the application rather than the online version so I typically open the files in the application. I have twice now been able to create a short cut in file explore where when I use the shortcut it opens the shared file as a .xlsx file in the application. I forgot how to do this though and have not been able to recreate the process.

I was hoping someone would be able to help me remember how I did this so I can save a shortcut to the application version of new shared files in my file explore folders so I don't have to open the one drive website every time I want to access the file.

    Dear AdamAnt,

I think that you can go to the OneDrive for Business site>Shared>find the shared files>go to the location of them>click on Add shortcut to My files to add them to My files and use the OneDrive sync client to sync all files in your OneDrive for Business site. Then you should access the shared files in File Explorer.

    Best Regards,

    Cliff

You simply start Excel >Recent's to access a doc

Or do so via File Explorer, the OneDrive folder

Win icon> Click "A" then "E", the resulting excel shortcut > Rt click >Pin to Task bar, start Excel from that shortcut

These shared documents do not show up under Recent Files. Only files that I have downloaded to the PC show here.

This worked exactly as I needed. I was unable to move the files in the one drive folders so I made short cuts to the parent files and was able to sort them as needed from there.

    Thank you for your help.
