Can I programatically change the data labels in a Modern Chart?

Is there a way to change the Data Label in a Modern Chart so that it displays the names of the groups on the X axis instead of the value of the data point (shows when you click the box "Display Data Label."

Are the individual data points named somehow?  Which event below signals a reload of the chart?

There is a screen shot at the bottom of this message that may make what I'm asking a little clearer.

This is what I would like to do. The values that are normally along the X (category) axis are, instead, next to the data points.

This is what the graph looks like currently.  Note that the data is not the same in both graphs.
