I work at a school and my computer is controlled by IT admin. I am using Microsoft 365 V2108. Can someone please confirm if this version and beyond does not support the functionality of insert online video in word as this button is grayed out. If it is still supported can someone provide me with a fix so I can tell IT.

There are others in the school using previous versions and this is working fine.

Hi Ethan and Charles,

After realising I was on the Channel Preview schedule the school has rolled me back to the 2107 version and changed my schedule. This has solved my problem. Thank you for your help with sorting this out, it is working perfectly now.

    Hi

Thank you for your reply and testing, According to your reply, I want to confirm one thing with you.

In Microsoft 365 V2108, the function of inserting online video is available and works perfectly. The following are my test results:

As far as we know, we did not receive any notification that the insert online videos option will be removed or replaced with another feature.

Could you double check with your school’s admin on this, and where did they receive that information?

Meanwhile, after confirming the group policy problem with your admin, please keep me updated so that we can help you solve the problem better.

    Best Regards,

    Ethan

    Hi Ethan

    Thank you for replying

The insert picture function works fine

The optional connection experiences is enabled

I am unable to open in safe mode or modify word as the school IT department has control of this.

I approached them about this issue and they have told me the functionality of insert online videos from V2108 and beyond is not available and there must be plans to remove it

The document is not in compatibility mode

I can ask about Group Policy and if it enabled.

Thank you for trying to help me with this issue

    Julie

    Hi,

Thank you for your question in this community. According to your description of the problem, you can follow suggestions to help you solve the problem:

May I ask whether your insert picture function is also grayed out, if so, you can go to: File>Account>Account Privacy>Manage Settings. Then look for the "Enable optional connected experiences" Make sure this option is turned on.

If it fails to solve your problem, you can try to open your file in safe mode to help you solve the problem, which can help us exclude third-party plug-ins from affecting your use。

Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC

If you still cannot insert in safe mode, you can try online repair to repair the inability to insert the video caused by the missing file.

    Repair an Office application

If the problem is not resolved, you can provide the following information to help us solve the problem:

1.You can confirm with your admin whether the Group Policy is enabled。

    1. Please check whether your document is in compatibility mode, see the file name on the top ribbon, is compatibility mode added at the end of file name?

If so, go to File > Info > Convert. And check the result.

    Best Regards,

    Ethan
