Sharepoint login shows instead of embedded Excel spreadsheet in a website.

Question

Hi.

I am attempting to embed an Excel spreadsheet into a website. I have used the 'embed' function found in the online version of the Excel spreadsheet and generated the required embed code (see below);

I have placed this into my website, but when I try to view the page on another computer or via incognito mode I get a screen stating SharePoint Login (see below);

I have checked for solutions online, and the most common solution is to ensure that any sign in required options are disabled. When I open the Embed screen there is no tick box for require sign in. I have checked the settings in the SharePoint Admin centre and the option to share without sign in is set (see below);

I am now at a loss as to what to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for posting in the community.

According to this article: Embed your Excel workbook on your web page or blog from SharePoint or OneDrive for Business - Office Support (microsoft.com)

It’s first recommended to make sure that the embedded workbook is a public workbook. And you may go to the SharePoint site to check if it is shared to Everyone or not. If not, please re-shared it to everyone and use the new created link to see the result.  Like shown below:

 

If the issue persists, please also try to use another web browser to see the result.

I have checked the link again, and it is share with everyone...

I have used the link in another browser and the spreadsheet loads. However, when I try to visit the embedded spreadsheet I am still prompted to log in via SharePoint.

I have recreated the embed link, reinserted it into my website and purged all caches, and I still get the same result.

"Anyone with the link can edit" only works if your organization allows anonymous access. Most don't for obvious security reasons, and Msft's language about this type of link is as usual confusing. Does the link work in an incognito window with no user signed in at all? If so, and you've also tried the file viewer web part, it's likely Msft is blocking the content from being iframed.

Since you have checked that the permissions and link for the workbook are all correct, so, I am afraid this issue may be due to your SharePoint environment. To narrow down this issue, you may also try to use another file to see result.

If the issue also happens to other Excel files, I would suggest you contact the Office 365 administrators in your organizations and open a support ticket in the Office 365 admin center via the steps in the articlefor further help. Since this issue should be due to the SharePoint layer. The support team there has the correct escalation channel for this case. It may be the most efficient way in handling this kind of issue.

I can confirm that generating a link for this file and share it with all permissions I can see it in an incognito browser. I also tried this in a difference browser as well, and the file is viewable.

I created a new workbook, shared this as "anyone with the link can edit" and again it displayed in an incognito window as well as in a different browser.

I then created an embed link and placed this into my website (this is a Wordpress website running with Elementor. All software is up to date on the site). When I place the iframe code in to the page, it shows the workbook as expected. When I then preview the page or view the page then the workbook displays as expect. At this point I am still logged in to my Wordpress site as administratior.

When I then attempt to view the page when not logged in as administrator, either not logged in to the site or logged in as a user, then I am prompted for the SharePoint log in.

I will attempt to raise a support ticket via the SharePoint admin to see if they can shed any light on to what is happening.
