Excel Web Query (Web Legacy) Browser Not Secure Error Message When Signing in to SA360.

Hi everyone,

I am running into an issue when trying to refresh a web query report through the legacy web connection from SA360. It worked fine initially - no issue with logging in SA360 through the popped-up window, but when I try refreshing data today it prompted me to sign in again. Then I ran into the error message saying that my browser or app may not be secure. Refresh and tried again but had no luck.

Did some digging and tried to follow the solution in the post below to load the web query directly in IE, but IE basically told me that it is retiring soon and can no longer open web queries and I was prompted to open it in Microsoft Edge. I followed the direction and logged in to SA360 in Microsoft Edge and load the query with no problem. Went back to excel to refresh the web query but it didn't resolve the problem. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/excel-web-queries-not-working-search-ads-360/49ead7f9-3bd0-4b42-87fd-862d3b37e57c?page=3

Also tried to disable the Protected Mode in IE and ensured the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" is unchecked, but neither of these solved my problem.

My Excel and IE versions are:

  • Microsoft® Excel® for Office 365 MSO (16.0.11929.20536) 64-bit

My colleague is using different versions (see below) and hasn't experienced any issues with the same Excel web query.

  • Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2201 Build 16.0.14827.20198) 64-bit

Thank you!!

    Hi Vanessa JS,

First, my pleasure to assist you.

As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

Based on my test, it seems I cannot reproduce issue when I go to excel, click the Data menu and select From Web and paste the web query URL from Search Ads 360. I use Microsoft edge default bowser.

Since you mentioned, " I followed the direction and logged in to SA360 in Microsoft Edge and load the query with no problem. Went back to excel to refresh the web query but it didn't resolve the problem." may I know does issue happened do specific Excel document?  If the issue happens to all Excel files including a new created one, the issue is more related to the Office app itself or your computer environment.

In the meantime, to confirm whether this is a bug in a specific version, please provide us the version information. To check version: Open Excel>File>Account>Product Information and capture a full screenshot and share here (Please mask your private message for protecting your private message) and we will be tested on that version and verify the result with you.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best regards

    Waqas Muhammad

    Hi Waqas,

Thank you so much for looking into this. I tried to load the same web query URL in a brand new excel file and ran into the same issue. So seems like this issue is happening to all Excel files on my computer, not just a specific one.

Please see the version information below:

    Hi Vanessa JS,

Thanks for the updates, here are some suggestions,

    1. I would suggest you make sure you are using latest version of Office, as it seems that you are using Office that is released on Jan 2020. And your colleagues don’t get the same issue on Office with latest version of Office in Current channel.
    2. To check if the issue related to any other programs on your windows, try perform clean boot and check the result: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial suggestions may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, Please kindly provide more information below to let us work further.

    1. Could you please share results after you tried suggestions above?
    2. If you compare the settings in you tried to change with that in your Colleagues’ device, are there any difference?

    Regards,

    Clark
