Onenote import issues on Android app

Hi,

I have a OneNote file that was previously exported to a zipped folder that I am trying to import directly into my OneNote android app.

I tried following the directions here for import since it says it can be done on Android devices: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/export-and-import-onenote-notebooks-a4b60da5-8f33-464e-b1ba-b95ce540f309

I was able to download the zipped folder and unzip it on my tablet. When I visit the importer website (import link in tutorial) , I cannot select the unzipped folder from "my files" on the android tablet. I can only select a single file within the folder.

I can't import an exported OneNote notebook onto the android tablet. Please help.

    Hello LittlePeaceofHappiness,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Oh. That's wonderful knowing that you were able to make it worked on your end I really appreciate your determination to make this issue resolved.

With regards on your last question I have tried that here on my end I was able to add my Notebooks under " My notebooks". Please see photo below.

I found out that OneNote would not display any of your notes if it's not save under " Documents Folder" in OneDrive, you can access it under " My files" and all you have to do is move the notebooks that you want to be displayed outside OneDrive as what you wished to happen.

On the second photo, the rest of my notebooks are not originally save under " Documents Folder" I saved it outside. I also wonder why am I not seeing it outside OneDrive web. So I moved the notebooks that I want to see as a Notebook outside OneDrive portal.

There you go! Please don't mind the duplicated "Back Up" notebook I have because the other one is fake because I just manually created that by clicking "New".

We look forward to your response on the results. If you have other clarifications about this matter, you can get back to us by replying to this post.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Juhn Jac,

Thank you for attempting to replicate the issue.

I found another round-about way on importing the zipped OneNote Folder but it only works halfway.

On the Android tablet, after I extracted the zipped OneNote, within the "my files" of Android, OneDrive is one of the listed storage spaces. when viewing the unzipped folder in the Android "my files," I was able to "move" or "copy" the folder on another location on my Android device.

I chose to "copy" the unzipped OneNote folder with all of the OneNote contents into a folder on my OneDrive within the one.

After 45 minutes to import, which is about the same amount of time as I tested this using a computer, it worked! However, the only thing is, after it imported into OneDrive, I was able to open the notebook by opening the Open Notebook.onetoc2 file.

It opened in my OneNote for Android and all of the sections and pages loaded; however, when I checked the OneNote Online, it was not listed as one of the Notebooks.

Is there a way to make the opened OneNote Notebook show up on My Notebooks in OneNote Online and for all of the individual sections to turn into a notebook?

I'm just trying to figure out how an Android can import a OneNote Notebook if they don't have access to a computer. If there's an alternative method or solution to share a notebook so they can use their own copy of it would be great. I chose not to share the file as "view only" because I make changes in the original that I don't want others to see so I would rather share a static copy of it.

    Thanks

The article refers to the PC and Mac like you highlighted; however, under the title it also lists Android Phones.

The article nowhere mentions Android, but PC or Mac:

Hello LittlePeaceofHappiness,  Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate that you've taken the time to post your concern here in Microsoft Community Forum. We understand that you’re having trouble importing an exported OneNote zipped file . Let’s check on this together and find ways to address this matter. I did some test here on my end, I've used my Android tablet and Android to reproduce the issue. I was able to export my own notebook online as a zipped file and it was saved under downloads folder. I decompressed or unzip the file for me to be able to select the notes or the folder that I want to be imported to OneDrive online using this link: -- Export or Import OneNote Notebooks , However, when I tried to import it to OneDrive I wasn't able to select the folder containing all the notebooks that I exported online ( zipped file) all I can see are different files and not the one that I want to be imported.

I tried to figure it out myself why am I not able to see the folder that I just unzipped. Not until I read this one: -- Image

Android device doesn't have the ability to extract what's inside of the zipped file, though it will give you the folder of your Notebooks but OneNote exporter won't be able to recognize it because it's not yet extracted. In other words, we can only do the import using Windows 10 computer and of course we need to use a browser that support importation of Notebooks to OneDrive.

This is the file extractor that I'm referring to and this only available if you have Windows computer : --

Because I tried it on my personal computer, I was able to import it without any issue.

Hope that Android system could be able to support extraction of a zipped file. I also hope that this answers your question.

We look forward to your response.
