I am trying to edit an old form in SharePoint, but SharePoint will not open the correct form to edit. In SharePoint, if I select "New Item" above the list, it brings up the correct form that I need to edit, but there is no option to edit the form. In the list options, if I select Customize Form. it does not bring up the same form as when you select New Item.

When I navigate to the SharePoint site in SharePoint Designer and attempt to edit the form using InfoPath, the wrong form continues to open and I am unable to edit the form I need. How can I edit this form?

Form that opens when selecting New Item above the list.

Form that opens in InfoPath when selecting Customize Form in SharePoint or SharePoint Designer.

What is listed in the Forms section of SharePoint Designer for the List (the form I need to edit is titled NewSimple.aspx)

    Hi FWS,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

From your description, it seems that you are trying editing form in SharePoint Online, however, you found you can only open the form but you cannot edit it. So you go to SharePoint Designer and used InfoPath to edit form, but it opened the incorrect form.

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, for the situation you encountered, we do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

Custom Form creation and editing in SharePoint Designer may have been deprecated since 3:00 AM UTC on Saturday, April 25, 2020, after this change was made, users may have encountered issue when creating or editing Forms. For more details, you can refer to this article: SharePoint Designer feature deprecation

Instead of it, users who have previously leveraged SharePoint Designer to create custom Forms are instead able to utilize PowerApps for this purpose. PowerApps does not require traditional coding knowledge or any additional app downloads such as InfoPath. You can also go to SharePoint list > click Integrate > Power Apps > Customize forms, as shown below:

If you want to learn more about it, you can also go to Power Apps community to share your feedback or questions, and the engineers in that for forum will also try their best to help you.

At the same time, you can also go to SharePoint Designer and create a new list and edit the form to check if the same problem will occur.

If the scenario above is not consistent with yours, you can also post back and point that.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. Have a good day and stay safe. 😊

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
