Sharepoint sync location changed.

Is there a way to specify the sync location for Sharepoint? I'm trying to understand sync locations for Sharepoint. I had "BB for .... Documents" syncing to "Sharepoint" , I stopped the sync with OneDrive Settings and then from the Office365 site, I restarted the sync. When I restarted the sync, "BB for Documents" start syncing to a different location - "Trans.... Inc.". I also create a new "Test - Documents" and it is syncing to "Trans... Inc.". I want it to sync to "Sharepoint". I can't figure out why it is doing this.

And to complicate matters, I'm getting a sync error for a "Projects" folder under TDI Team - Documents as it looks to be syncing now under "OneDrive - Trans....Inc" Documents. Don't know how this happened and I haven't been able to fix it. (Image below doesn't show the folder".

    Hi JKK_924,

As per your description, first please allow me to explain the sync default behavior, by default, Microsoft OneDrive sync client app sync SharePoint online libraries in folders under your Windows “User” folder, for example: C:\Users*username\ and* When you sync your OneDrive library, your files are placed in a folder named “OneDrive @CompanyName”

As you mentioned, when you stopped the sync via go to OneDrive Settings and when you restarted the sync. The SharePoint library "BB for Documents" start syncing to a different location and based on my experience this is really abnormal behavior as you encounter.

And since you also mentioned, “And to complicate matters, I'm getting a sync error for a "Projects" folder under TDI Team” based on my test Please try my suggestion below and see if its help.( I tested and I can sync all other SharePoint document library under SharePoint in file explorer)

Go to OneDrive setting page> In the Account tab, select Unlink this PC first, **** then if your OneDrive sync client app is not up-to update you may first try to install the latest OneDrive sync client app via this link OneDrive release notes **** on your machine, And then Navigate to SharePoint library that want to sync and click Sync and check the outcomes.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best Regards

    Waqas Muhammad

Thank you, Waqas. Unlinking from my pc and redoing sync got stuff syncing in the same location although stuff is being synced to a folder with my company's name rather than "Sharepoint". I think what may have happened is when I originally setup this sync a few years back I was using groove.exe, the older OneDrive for Business app, and it started the sync to "Sharepoint" folder. Somewhere along the way, I was switched to onedrive.exe and when I tried to recently add a new sync it followed the new rules to create a sync folder using my company name, and when I tried to fix things it caused more sync problems. Here's the MS article that provided additional information.

I do prefer the shorter "sharepoint" folder name but looks like the only way around this to change the company name.

    Hi JKK_924,

Thanks for your valuable feedback and sharing updates with us. I really appreciate your kind words and your effort doing those.

As you know that the Support for the old OneDrive for Business sync app(groove.exe)  has ended and we always recommender to users Upgrade to the new OneDrive sync app from old Groove.exe. Yes with new OneDrive sync client app will synced to a folder with my company's name, this is how OneDrive client app works the reason, basically when you sync it uses your Org name in admin center.

If there is any issue related with the Office applications in the future, please feel free to post back in this community.

We will be here for help.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best Regards
