Visio 2016 Activation Error

Question

I subscribe to Microsoft 365, but had purchased Visio 2016 basic edition. I was having problems with Office, so I uninstalled Office, with a satisfactory uninstallation. I reinstalled Office 365 satisfactorily, and the reinstalled my Visio. when I enetered the Visio product key, I was told the key was 'already in use', did I want 'repair?'. When I chose repair, I lost Visio altogether! At present I am working against the stops to produce a written and graphical product, I do not need this hassle! Can anyone help me to resolve this Microsoft administrative issue please?

Thank you for your help. You cmd script for the product key check shows my Visio 16 key to be valid. I suspect what is happening is my Windows 11 Insider build 22543 does not to 'like' Visio 16, which of course does not help me because I use Visio a lot. I will send feedback to the Insider programme.

May I know if you tried the suggestion in above reply provided by Clark? Are they worked in your situation?

1. If not, please verify your Visio license is not expired.
2. Try to remove office license to check the result. Reference: Remove Office Licenses from Windows | @Poremsky.com
3. Verify you installed Visio by this article,  Install Visio or access Visio for the web (microsoft.com)

Can you tell me if you get some error message when you activate Visio? Can you provide the screenshot to us?

Many thanks for your response, herewith the answers to your questions:

1. I have a licence for a 365 single home user edition, this is now running satisfactorily
2. I purchased Visio Standard as a stand alone item in 2018, and have the key for it (which, after installation doesn't work). I went to my MS account, and it shows my Visio software plus product key, and install it, but it will not activate!

Hi Julian Grenfell,

I go through the post carefully, based on the description, it seems that you have installed Office 365 and Visio on your pc normally, however get issue when try to activate it, here are some suggestions:

1. Use script OLicenseCleanup.vbs to clear all cached Office license information on your PC, if you don’t want script, you may perform the first four steps in the link manually: Link
2. Install Visio again and activate Office and Visio and check the result, if you have associated Visio product to your Microsoft account, you may just sign in Visio with your account and check if it is activated.

1. Do you have Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions or Microsoft 365 Business Subscription?
2. Where do you download Visio installation package? Did you redeem the product key and associate the product to your Microsoft account?
