I have several Planner boards that I use for different projects, on some of those Planner boards I have the ability to add comments to the tasks, there is a comment box and I can just add my comment. But on other there is no comment box available, there is no where to type anything in. I've had a look but can't seem to find anything that would account for this.
I've double checked and I have the Exchange Online license, and I can already add comments to some Planner boards, just not all of them. Is there something else about the particular boards that would stop me from adding comments to them?

Tried some of the potential causes you mentioned, my outcomes are below:
Not sure if I clarified in my first question, but the Comments box is only missing on some Planners. For example on this Planner I can see the Comment box:
But on another Planner, using the same browser and same account, I cannot see the Comment box:
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

First, my pleasure to assist you.
As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.
It seems comments option box is missing in some of planner.
Based on my test result, it seems I cannot meet same behavior as like you described above. See image below for your reference;
After my search I found some users having a similar issue and they mentioned there may have several seconds lag on Planners. And I would recommend you wait for a while to see the result. Since the issue may be related to the Web connection.
Also, if possible could you please try to user another browser or InPrivate mode to open your problematic planner to check if there is any difference.
Meanwhile, could you please share the following information for further troubleshooting?
1.May I know if users in your organization have the same issue?
2.May I know if the issue occurs to a new created planner as well?
