Excel column print line margin

In the Excel NORMAL view, I am used to seeing both row & col margin print limits as dotted lines. However, I currently have a spreadsheet where only the row dotted line shows. Can anyone comment on why the col dotted line is missing?

    Hi JKSJIM,

I understand you can see the dotted lines for the rows but not for columns. The dotted lines that you are referring are the page break lines which helps define the print area.

In the said Excel workbook, click View>Page break Preview, please check if it shows the dotted lines for rows and column.

Besides, click File>Options> Advanced, scroll down to the section – “Display options for this worksheet”, ensure option “Show page breaks” is checked.

If the above option is set correct, go to Page Layout tab, click Breaks>Rest all page breaks. This procedure resets the worksheet to display only the automatic page breaks.

    Let me know the status.

    Neha,

Thanks for replying, however neither option you presented work very well. It may be that the particular spreadsheet I'm working with has some glitch.

The only way I can see to fine-tune col widths is to switch from Normal to the Page Layout view.

    Hi JKSJIM,

If you see page break in other or new workbooks and the issue is only with a specific workbook, this means it's the problem with the said file only. It is not easy to find the root cause in a particular file, I know it is not easy to re-create the file, but the safest way would be to use a new file instead.

Thanks for your understanding and co-operation.

    Regards,

    Neha
