Excel and Powerpoint sync chart problem

Last time it worked, but now seems broken.

When I try to paste chart in the PowerPoint (with the sync to excel file), it is always pasted as picture. I use 2nd option from: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/insert-excel-data-in-powerpoint-0690708a-5ce6-41b4-923f-11d57554138d

As I said, few days ago it worked and I was able to edit chart directly in the PowerPoint (with the sync link do Excel file), but now it's always a picture. Was there some update?

I did a reset and repair Office app in Windows. Also tried a Safe Mode, but it doesn't help. I tried to make new test charts, but it's the same, so chart was pasted as picture.

Your memory is perfectly correct, and you definitely CAN still copy from worksheets or charts and paste special/link to PowerPoint to create live links.

At least you can do this on the desktop version. Are you by any chance using the online/web version, though?

Also, it's possible that MS has resolved a long-standing bug that allowed you to paste/link from a file that hasn't been saved. I'll have to test this later, but check to see if the situation's different when you first save the Excel file, THEN (and only then) do the copy/paste.

    Hi,

it's Business and Windows PC (fully updated), but I think I'm wrong from the start and I'll be glad if you confirm. I see it's completely impossible to make a sync PowerPoint file with Excel file, while keeping a chart live and it will always be a picture. Is that right? I thought I did it before, but I think I'm wrong and I was testing it separetly. As I see it, there are 2 options:

    1. I can paste a chart from Excel to the PowerPoint and it will be live - BUT without files sync.
    2. I can make Excel and PowePoint files sync - BUT then, the chart will be a picture.

If this is true, I hope that you will add this option in the future - I mean files sync with a live, non-picture chart. I was intend to use the chart as an animation but when it's only a picture, I can't use more animation for catgories etc.
