I had to make course materials that is going to be used school-wide and I need to save them as a PowerPoint. However, whenever I go through the usual steps to save something it keeps saving as a word document and not a PowerPoint. I've tried making a new PowerPoint but the issue keeps happening. I cant even move the material to another computer because the word document it saves won't open.

I know Microsoft recently updated and I think it has to do with that. it hasn't happened before then. please help I need these submitted before the Christmas break.

What version of office are you using?

    1. Open any Office application such as Word or Excel and select Account.
    2. Under Product Information, you will see the name and, in some cases, the full version number of the Office product.

Take advantage that you have this page open and click on <Office Updates> and try to update it again.

    1. Can you see the .docx extension in this document at any time?
    2. Were you able to save your presentations normally before?
    3. When did this problem start?

    Try running an Office repair:

    → Close all Office programs.

→ Click the Start button , Settings , then Applications .

→ Choose Microsoft Office and click the Modify button.

→ Select Repair Online and then click the Repair button.

    → Restart your computer.

If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall office again on your PC. You can follow the guidelines at the link below:

    Hi, SamRivera1.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Are you creating a PowerPoint presentation, but when you save it, it becomes a Word file?

    1. What type of file is shown in the document property?

Navigate to the file saved in Powerpoint → Right click on it → see the file type.

    1. Create another document in PowerPoint → Go to File → Save As → from the Save as type list choose .PPTX

Give me updates on this issue
