Another way would be to Ctrl + click the objects in the Selection pane (Home tab > Editing group > Select > Selection Pane).

Hello!
I noticed that the "Select Objects Tool" works well when there are only shapes or only ink to be selected.
However, if there is a mix of objects and ink I does not select all or any shape.
Is there a way to change this?

I'm using this version Microsoft® Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2110 Build 16.0.14527.20270) 64-bit.
That suggests you are running an updated version.
Note that the Select Objects tool can only be used with objects in the drawing layer. In other words, the Text Wrapping must be set to something other than "In line with text."
Which specific version of Office are you running?
Here (running version 2110 of Office 2021), I have no issue with using the Select Objects tool to select a shape and an ink object.
It works also with the objects from the Insert layer or at least the shapes. So with shapes is ok, with ink is ok, but when ink and shapes are together I must select manually the elements to group them together as the tool only selects the ink.

It is the version all students of my university can download for free.
