    Hi JTatWork,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I'm glad to offer help.

According to the screenshot you provided, we can see that the 'above shape' is the button control, in this case, please first go to the 'Design Mode', then right-click the button control to select it so that the Format Panel is editable.

Or you can just select 'Format Control' to open the format dialog window.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any concerns.

    Best Regards,

    Arck

This kind of button is designed to run a macro. To do that right click the button and choose Assign Macro:

That will expose the Assign Macro dialog box where you can pick the macro:

I don't have any macros in the above screen shot. If the button is a Form Control button you can't change its color. If it's an ActiveX button, right click it and you will see the following options:

To change the color choose Properties:

Select BackColor and on the right open the drop down and pick Palette or System and then choose your color or if you know the Hex code type that:

With this type of control the VBA code can be attached or create by choosing View Code from the original drop down.

If your button is a Shape from the Insert, Shape command, when you right click your menu will look like this and you can change the button color using the Ribbon, and you can link to a cell using the Link option or run a macro using the Assign Macro option:
