Sensitivity labelling/classification for unsupported file types

Hello,

I would like to introduce sensitivity labelling at my workplace and have defined a set of classifications. Using built-in labelling in Word, Excel and PowerPoint is fine, but I would also like to apply sensitivity classifications to other file types that may be stored in SharePoint.

If I understand correctly, the Azure Information Protection (AIP) Unified Labelling Client will allow an extended set of file types to be classified (e.g. TIF, PDF, etc.) but requires installation on user PCs and only integrates with File Explorer so users would need to save files locally, apply the classification, then upload to SharePoint.

  1. Doesn't this seem a little 'clunky' compared to built-in labelling via Word etc.?
  2. Although there are more supported file types, it doesn't cover every file type that may be stored in SharePoint. For example, what if I wanted to classify video recording from a Teams meeting? Can a classification be applied in SharePoint for these?

Any suggestions or clarifications here would be appreciated!

Thanks,
John

    Hi @John G ,

Frustrating though it is, we can only apply sensitivity labels to supported office file types in SharePoint and OneDrive currently if via OOB way. As per my knowledge, I don't think there is any chance to apply a sensitivity classification to an unsupported type file. It is a known limitation of sensitivity labels.
