Sharepoint List - Column with 'Multiple lines of text' with 'Append Changes to Existing' chooses wrong ID

Hi,

since a couple of days our lists behave quite strange regarding columns with 'Multiple lines of text' with the option 'Append Changes to Existing' switched on.

Not only is the 'View Entries' link now the German 'Einträge anzeigen', while the rest of the list is still English..

The link also points to the wrong ID:

ID=1 just beeing always the first item on the top, no matter the sort order
ID=2 the second item and so on..

Strange thing is that not every list on the same page behaves like this.

A working link from another list looks like this:

Only difference beeing that that the correct ID is choosen and that ListID&PageType are flipped in their order.

This problem persists across multple devices and browsers with Win10, but strangely a session on a Win2019 terminalserver behaves normally.

Kind regards,
Alex

Same issue, and the workaround with Edge Compatibility mode worked as well.

    Hi George,

    thanks for the response!

The languages and region settings are set to English (UK) while the time zone is set to UTC+1 (Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome etc. )
I'm located in Germany but the browser is set to English.

The item ID itself works as expected, i.e. it is incremented for each new item.
Though for a very brief moment the ID looks like this:
    Image

After a couple seconds it looks normal:
    Image

Sorting the items by name results in:

Item A -> Link ID 1 (actual item ID 248)
Item B -> Link ID 2 (actual item ID 249)
Item C -> Link ID 3 (actual item ID 250)
Item D -> Link ID 4 (actual item ID 251)

Reversing the sort order results in:

Item D -> Link ID 1 (actual item ID 251)
Item C -> Link ID 2 (actual item ID 250)
Item B -> Link ID 3 (actual item ID 249)
Item A -> Link ID 4 (actual item ID 248)

No matter what column is used to sort the list, the first item links always to ID 1 and so on.

This issue can be replicated with other user accounts aswell.

    Dear Alex,

    Sorry for the late reply.

According to your description, for the first situation, I have searched a lot, but I haven't found the related settings that may cause this situation. For the second situation, my understanding when reversing the sort order, the ID in the ID column and the actual item ID in the URL are different. If so, I can't reproduce the same situation.

As you mentioned it could be reproduced in other accounts, I would like to suggest you contact your admin/IT department and let them raise a support ticket via Microsoft 365 Admin Center> Support> New service request. That support team there will have the correct channel to help you investigate more and find what exactly the reason has caused the two situations in the backend.

    Appreciate your understanding and patience.

    Sincerely,

    George | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Dear Alex

Good day! Thanks for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

According to your description, there are two situations happening on your side.

For the first situation, as the column doesn't display 'View Entries', but displays the German 'Einträge anzeigen', please check the following settings.

    1. Site Settings> under the section Site Administration, click Regional settings. Check if the Time zone and Locale are about German
    2. Click your user profile in the upper right corner> View account> Personal info, check the setting of Country or region

For the second situation, I haven't found any official documentation explaining how this function creates IDs for items while based on my test, the order of the IDs is likely determined by the order in which the items were created, and the IDs are unique in each list. Let's say item A's ID is 2. If you delete item A and create a new item with the same values as item A, the ID of the new item will be a new one, not 2. Based on the situation, it is possible that the ID is 81 if you have deleted items in this list.

Also, for "This problem persists across multple devices and browsers with Win10, but strangely a session on a Win2019 terminalserver behaves normally.", do you mean the ID of each item in the same list is different when you check it on different sides (devices)?

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    George | Microsoft Community Moderator
