Table borders changing when emailing document

I have tables in a document that I work on and then send to someone else to add stuff to before getting them back to finish. When I get them back the borders of the tables are visible. When I create the doc and send them they are not. Any ideas on how to avoid this and not have to edit each time?

There is only one Word setting that could contribute to such behaviour - 'Automatically update document Styles'. You'll find it under Developer|Document Template>Templates. If that option is checked and the referenced template:

    • exists on the recipient's system and contains Styles used in the document and those Styles are defined differently than they are in your copy of the document; and

either does not exist on your system or exists on your system but your copy lacks those same Styles,

then it is possible for the behaviour you describe to occur without user or macro intervention. The simple solution in this unlikely scenario would be to uncheck the 'Automatically update document Styles' option.

Perhaps at their end, then, there's a Document_Open or other macro that's modifying the document without explicit user intervention. Regardless, you need to check what's going on at their end.

Borders or gridlines? Either way, what you describe suggests the person who you're sending the document to is making the changes and not reverting them before sending the document back to you.

What are the chances that my computer is doing it when I send the docs to them or when it is opening them when they return? I feel like I am the common denominator...

It's the border, I have to go under borders and shading to get it off. I did think that at first, but the person sending it back to me is not always the same person. The part they are adding to is not even in the table, so I do not think they touch it at all. It will also bold things inside the tables from time to time but not as regularly.
