Comment notifications are great, but when you click on them in email can you force the document to be opened in the native desktop application instead of the browser?

Browser based Word is terrible for complex multiuser scenarios for a bunch of reasons and it would be highly desirable to have the desktop app open by default instead.

Hi

We're coming back and appreciate your patience!

By our test, please try the following steps to check if you can open the link in email in desktop not by browser.

Go to outlook>File>Advanced>Link Handling>check the box open supported hyperlinks to office files in office desktop apps>then reatart outlook

Once done, click the link in the email, it should open in desktop app.

But you shoud note: there are some scenario in which the link will not open in desktop app, please refer to below link

Open file links directly in Office desktop apps (microsoft.com)

Hope the information can help you. And if there have any unclear or misunderstanding, please feel free to post back and we’ll continue to help you all the time!

Really appreciate your understanding and patience .

Best regards,

Stacey
