I created a slide with a video inserted and also a text box besides it. My goal is that once I click the play button to start the video, it would continue to play while I type on the text box. The problem I am facing is that the video stops playing once I click on the text box to type. Does anyone know how to enable the video to continue to play until I stop it? I am on the "Normal" mode and not on "Slide Show".

Also, I'm am using a Mac with Microsoft PowerPoint ver. 16.55 with a Microsoft 365 subscription.

You're very welcome.

And while it does add a level of complexity, it's also a valuable skill for the students to learn; not just this specific case but the more general idea of using more than just one program at a time when one won't do the job.

A Learning Moment! :-)

    >> You might be able to add an ActivX text box and then play the video in show mode.

But would ActiveX be possible on a Mac (which OP's indicated they have)?

In edit mode video can only play when it has focus. Typing somewhere else will always stop it and I don't think there is any way to not stop it.

WHY do you want to do this?

    Dear  JFyiah,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

Based on my test result( I just tested from my side) and it seems that I can confirm I also meet the same behaviour in PowerPoint for mac OS. After play the inserted video in PowerPoint slide and when I try to typing something on the text box and the video stop playing.

Based on my different test, the presentation pauses if you do anything else in a PowerPoint slide.

Since I also meet the same behaviour,  Please allow me some time to do more test from my side and I will updates you here ASAP after I get the result.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad
