Sorting multiple columns

I am trying to sort an excel sheet by two columns; the first separates the data into sections (active, pending etc.) and the second should then sort them into date order within the correct section. I have applied a custom sort, however they are still not in date order.

If this is similar to what you have done but you are not getting the records arranged by Date within Section the most likely reason is that what you are calling dates may appear to be dates but actually are not stored as such.

It's impossible to be sure without seeing the actual data. A share link to a sample file stored on OneDrive would be most helpful.

First sort by date then sort by section.

    Hi Bob,

That was really helpful, thank you! Following on from your reply I had realised that as the dates were entered as 07.11.2022 rather than 07/11/2022, the system was not recognising them as dates, even though the cells had been formatted as such. All is working perfectly now.

    Regards

    Annabel
