I would like to insert only my caption information, not Word's number or other automatic caption information.

I discovered that all I need to do is to make the caption, then backspace to remove the auto added number.

Another way is to type the text of the caption as an ordinary paragraph, and then apply the Caption style to it. To make this quicker, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to the style:

    • Click File > Options > Customize the Ribbon.
    • Click the Customize button at the bottom left of the dialog.
    • In the next dialog, scroll to the bottom of the Categories list and click Styles.
    • In the Styles list, click Caption.
    • Click in the "Press new shortcut key" box and press the shortcut combination you want.
    • Click the Assign button. The new shortcut will appear in the Current Keys box.
    • Click the Close button.

    Hi Colleen

I'm Anna and I'd be happy to help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Sorry for the trouble this might have caused. Yes, you can simply edit the text in the text box and delete the number. according to the suggestion by madmak01 in the thread below

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    Anna
