Another account from your organization is already signed in on this device. Try again with a different account.

I've been using Microsoft 365 (through work) for 8 years now on my personal Macbook with no issues until yesterday. Yesterday I tried to do some work in Excel and it wouldn't allow me to save it because I needed to sign in. I thought that was strange because I never logged out, but hey no big deal I'll just sign in. But when I try to sign in, I get this error message, "Another account from your organization is already signed in on this device. Try again with a different account." The reason I know this can't be true is I only have 1 Microsoft 365 account and this is my personal computer. So I need help being able to log in. I'm not able to save any documents in any of the apps.

UPDATED May 5th, 2023

There is a new solution way at the end of this thread..reprinted here that I have used 3 times this week, with 100% success!

"For Mac devices, follow these steps:

  1. Close all Microsoft 365 apps.
  2. Open Terminal, and then run the following command:
defaults write com.microsoft.Word ResetOneAuthCreds -bool YES

  3. Open the Microsoft Word app and continue with the activation steps." My older Post: I also have the same issue with this, on a Mac macOS 11.7.2

Started about 2 weeks ago...

There are 2 user accounts on this Mac and each has their own Office 365 License - and sign in as themselves within their own login account.

If I uninstall every single part of Office it goes away - for the first user who signs in..but once the second user logs on the issue returns.

Using the License Removal Tool - does nothing - I also found a script thats named MS Office ActivationTroubleshooter - it does nothing either.

I have (Today) installed the Mac OS 11.7.2 update - no change and the Office 16.68 updates - also no change.

My thought was to have each user sign out of Office when they log out of the computer and then sign back in when they log back in. These users work 3 days at a time... so they each have their own Account on the Mac. But this did not work either. Once the second user signed in it was locked up.

Here is an exact screen shot of the error.

I am receiving the same error across all Office 365 Apps.

It appeared to happen right after the most recent update. I also tried uninstalling all apps and reinstalling after the above guidance failed. Same error.

Using the online apps is working correctly. It appears to be an issue with the Downloaded Mac Apps.

I still do not know what is causing this issue, as it is returning on at least 1 of our Mac's after I applied the below fix. But it will get you back up and running really fast..no reboot or reinstall needed.

Here is the 30 second fix!

Quit all Office Applications, including OneDrive (Might have to Force Quit OneDrive from Activity Monitor)

Open your User/Library/Group Containers folder and delete all the folders that start with UBF8T - There are about 5 of them.. Just put them in the trash...don't need to empty it yet

Hold the Option key and click on the GO menu to see this Library folder

Not HD/Library, but the (Sometimes Hidden) User/Library folder.

Then open Word and it will prompt you to sign in again...and this time it works.

    Hi,

I had the same problem on my MacOS 13.2.1 and Office 365. I tried all above without success, but I used License Removal Tool and it helped to fix the problem.
