Why do Microsoft updates keep causing MORE issues? Close to tears with frustration here.

Two days ago I was working from home on my laptop using word and excel fine. Microsoft insisted on an update once I was finished that day, and then the following day my laptop starts up immediately with an error window. Once I logged into Windows I discover I was no longer able to access Word or Excel. Simply won't open. No error message or explanation. So I went online to see how to fix this issue and tried the troubleshooting options. Tried 'reset', and 'repair'. Went into programmes and features, selected 'change', and absolutely nothing happened.

Went onto live support and they tried to access my laptop remotely but lo and behold an error message popped up with that blocking that as an option. They called me and directed me back to the updates section (which is what caused the problems in the first place) and instructed me to install the optional update. Tried that, and it has failed every time I have tried to install it.

I am absolutely sick of this. I am trying to work from home this week and getting nothing done because whatever update occurred the other night, it has slowed my laptop down to make it absolutely impossible to do anything.

It shouldn't be THIS hard to get a fix for this. I just want to be able to access my word and excel documents. I shouldn't need to be trying to find multiple fixes for multiple problems that Microsoft caused in the first place.

Beyond fed up with this.

Try going to Settings>Updates and Security>Left hand side>Troubleshoot>I do not have a problem at this time so nothing shows. But when I have had a problem with updates there was a troubleshooting link.

To Repair Office type in the Windows search box>Apps>Click on>Apps & Features>In the little search box type>Office>This will bring up your Office>Click on it>Choose>Modify>Choose>Quick Repair. You can return and choose online repair.

If you used Control Panel before and right clicked on your Office>Chose>Change and then>Quick repair.

You can also run System repair, which repairs and replaces missing files>Open Command Prompt (Admin). Type>sfc /scannow (Press return)

Are you running Office for Windows?

Are you able to start Word in Safe mode?
