Random Icon - Cannot Delete - Document Ruined

I am using Word on Office 365 for Mac.

I was typing on a document this morning and suddenly it froze. When it started working again a line of icons appeared. They ran through all the text, separating it. I was able to delete most of them, except one that is in the lower right hand corner of my text.

I cannot get rid of it.

I cut it and it returns. I delete it and it returns. I try backspacing around it and it returns. I created a new document and copied all my text, but the icon transferred to that document!

How do I get rid of this icon?

This document is nearly 100 pages and I do not want to re-type the whole thing.

Please help.

    Hello,

I’m Bambi and I’ll be happy to help with your question.

May I know if this happens on a particular Word document or any Word document?

If it’s only on one document, copy and paste on a new document and choose to “Keep text only”

Go to File > Options > Advanced.

Under Cut, copy, and paste, select the down arrow for the setting to change

Each setting has options you can set:

    Keep Source Formatting
    Merge Formatting
    Keep Text Only

Be sure to choose Keep Text Only.

Check if the issue persists there. If it does not, it may have to do with the formatting.

If it does not, you can try the steps below:

You can use the Repair Disk Permissions option to troubleshoot problems in Mac OS X 10.2 or later versions. To use this option, follow these steps:

On the Go menu, click Utilities.

    Start the Disk Utility program.

Choose the primary hard disk drive for your computer.

    Click the First Aid tab.

    Click Repair Disk Permissions.

I hope this information helps. I look forward to your response to provide more insight on the issue.

    Best Regards,
    Bambi
