Microsoft Forms Q: Insert Link for File ?

To log File uploaded to Network , I need a shortcut to document File Name for Data Entry Form so that:

  1. File Name will not be changed unintentionally
  2. few clicks
  3. include Folder Path Name

I can only think of a cumbersome method:

  1. Right Click on File
  2. Create Shortcut
  3. Right Click on Shortcut
  4. Select Send to Mail Recipient
  5. Copy Mail Body which includes Folder and File name
  6. Paste into Forms

Is it possible to, in single step, generate and copy Shortcut to one of the following:

  1. Forms directly?
  2. Clipboard? to be pasted into Forms

iPhone is simpler (a link is automatically copied to the system clipboard) by:

  1. Select Share buton
  2. Choose Copy iCloud Link.

Thanks and Best Regards,

    Dear Sunny Schindler,

Good Day! Thanks for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

From your description, you need to insert the File in Microsoft Forms.

To let the responders share files, you can Add questions allowing file uploads. Add a new question by selecting  Add button; add new.> SelectMore question types, and then select File upload. Here is a link with more information: : Add questions allowing file uploads (microsoft.com).

Regarding your workaround "Right Click on File, create a shortcut, Right Click on Shortcut…….", if your goal is to get the file location, please try the steps below:

    1. First, open that workbook in the Excel desktop application and then click File>Info>Copy path.
    2. Then, clicking "Copy path" will give you the path.

Further, you mentioned that "**iPhone is simpler (a link is automatically copied to the system clipboard) by 1. Select the Share button, 2. Choose Copy iCloud link."**This is because the File is stored in the cloud; you can also choose to store your File in OneDrive and choose share file from OneDrive by clicking on the File and selecting share; you can also copy the link and share it in  Microsoft form. Share files with OneDrive (microsoft.com)

Feel free to let us know if the above scenario does not fit your experience.

Thank you for being so cooperative.

    Sincerely,

Thanks, is it possible as if the file is in OneDrive ?

"clicking on the File and selecting share; you can also copy the link and share it in  Microsoft form" is what I am after.

    Hi Sunny Schindler,

Thanks for posting back to Microsoft Community.

From your reply, you want to know if you can copy the file link from OneDrive and share it in Microsoft Forms.

We're afraid you won't be able to upload the file from OneDrive directly to Microsoft Forms in this case; however, you can copy the link from OneDrive and paste it into Microsoft Forms.

    1. To copy the file to copy the link from OneDrive, Open OneDrive> Select file> copy link or OneDrive, Open OneDrive> Select file>  share> copy link. This link provides more information about copying links from OneDrive: Share files with OneDrive (microsoft.com)

    1. Paste it into Microsoft Forms.

If the above scenario does not match your experience, please let us know.

I appreciate your cooperation. Sincerely, Claire| Microsoft Community Moderator

    Hi Sunny Schindler,

Thanks for posting back to Microsoft Community.

From your reply, you want to know if you can copy the file link from Network Drive and share it in Microsoft Forms.

In this situation, we’re afraid you might be unable to link the file directly from Network Drive to  Microsoft Forms.

We do understand the inconvenience caused by it. However, at the same time to address your concern, we recommend you provide feedback on the feedback portal for improvement. To provide feedback, use this link: Microsoft Forms  Feedback Portal. Feedback submitted directly goes to the related team. This is the best way to let the developers know your requirements and comments, improve the product, and make it better.

At the same time, you can upload the file to OneDrive or SharePoint and copy the file link from OneDrive or SharePoint and paste it to Microsoft Forms.

If the above scenario does not match your experience, please let us know.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Sincerely,

    Claire| Microsoft Community Moderator
