Excel Filtering a table with sub groups

Trying to troubleshoot this seemingly easy problem...

I have a table where the data is categorized in the first column by last names and the data is household income in the second column. Now most households only have one income and one name however a few have two names that I included as subgroups in the rows below. When I try to filter the data it does include the subgroups in the household name they are under it treats them as independent rows. Is there a way to filter without treating the subgroups as independent rows? So in the screenshot Sam and Kyle are part of the johnson family so I want to filter while keeping them under the Johnson name. Hope this makes sense.

    Dear Thomas Fischer2,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to filter the data in the table, and part of the data in one column is not displayed as independent rows. I would like to know if my understanding is correct. Please feel free to correct me if my understanding is incorrect.

If I understand correctly, I notice that you have added groups. I found in my tests that the filter ignores the data when you collapse the groups

When I fold the filter it will look like the image below:

If my test results are not what you described, you are welcome to correct me at any time.

    Sincerely,
