EXCEL - Hover effects on Cells

I'm looking to see if there's a way to make cells listen to mouse hover event or not.

For example...

| while hovering | Format > Cell >
Horizontal Alignment: Left (indent)

Text control: [X] Wrap text | | --- | --- | --- |

We've tried a few alternatives to this that make use of the comment and notes feature, but the team is looking for an option to expand the the cell itself without having to click.

Things to note:

  • Not worried about what the selecting or editing the content behavior will be, just focusing hovering over non-selected cells
  • Cells will only contain plain text (no hyperlinks or formulas)

*Depending on Window size of browser, example table might display the contents of the cell in default state wrapping, if this is the case, imagine it's a single line and cut off at the '...'

    I got a small test file working, at the time, and never did anything with it.

    Dear Paul,

    Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

    I'm afraid that there is no way showing all content in a cell by hovering the mouse without clicking on it.

    The only workaround may be to use the following example VBA to auto-convert the cell to comments.

    Public Sub ValuesToComments()

    Dim rng As Range

    If TypeOf Selection Is Range Then

    For Each rng In Selection.Cells

      On Error Resume Next

      rng.Comment.Delete

      On Error GoTo 0

      rng.AddComment Text:=rng.Value

      rng.Comment.Shape.Height = 1000

    Next rng

    End If

    End Sub
