OneNote pen bug

Question

I am currently facing a problem that doesn't allow me to write smoothly both on OneNote 2016 and OneNote for windows 10. Apart from the lag, sometimes while writing, random lines across the whole page appear or the words overlap.

All new pages created show same issues and neither repairing or uninstalling have worked out.

Device info.

• IdeaPad flex 5 14ARE05
• windows 11 home (21H2)
• OS build: 22000.593
• Windows Feature Experience Pack: 1000.22000.593.0
• OneNote for Windows 10 version: 16001.14326.20838.0
• Office version: 18.2110.13110.0

I think related with pen, could you please also try to another device and check if you meet same behaviour or not.

Hello Waqas, once again I thank you for your help and patience.

Before reporting the issue to the OneNote Team, I wanted to inform you about the fact that now same issues are showing up also on Microsoft Whiteboard and it's getting progressively worse. Paint still works perfectly tho.

The pen is showing problem only while trying to write, but if used as mouse it works fine.

It seems OneNote for web also have some issue on writing the letters while using pen. I think it might be incompatible issue after updates somehow. However, (first my humbly request please don't mind) I request could you please report this issue directly to our related development OneNote Team (we will report this issue to our related resources for further investigation) via Microsoft OneNote app or via our Microsoft OneNote feedback portal, to related development team so that they can get notice about it, and it will be fix in next update of OneNote apps version. Your advice is very important to us.

Hello Waqas, thank you so much for your assistance!

I checked out the OneNote web version and at first it showed no problem at all, but then after few minutes the pen started to be unresponsive again. Thankfully this time no overlapping words or lines across the the page, just some problems on writing the letters properly.

I also tried Paint and Microsoft Whiteboard and both of them seems to be completely unaffected by those the issues.

Both OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote 2016 worked perfectly fine 'till last Saturday, then from Monday on the problems started to show up more and more (first in OneNote 2016 and then in OneNote for Windows 10). There were indeed some Windows updates pending, but even after updating the problems are still getting worse.

First, my pleasure to assist you.

As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

Since you mentioned issue happened to **** both on OneNote 2016 and OneNote for windows 10 and even newly created OneNote notebook page as well on your device, it seems there is incompatible issue between when using pen.  

However, to check if this related with OneNote apps itself, if you don’t mind (my humbly request please don’t mind) could you please try to use OneNote for web (open your notebook page in online via browser https://www.onenote.com ) and try to write using pen to check if there is any difference, this step will help for us to narrow down your issue.

Meanwhile, could you please confirm, does it work before? when this issue starts e.g., after updates Windows OS, OneNote etc.
