Email Threads

Hello, new to OneNote and I like what I see so far. I have a question or would like some advice about something.

In my new role, I any trying to stay organized and I have been using OneNote to do so.

I often will get an email ie: here is the sales data for FY21

I would send the email to OneNote and make notes and ...

Three days later leadership would respond to the email and ask a few clarifying questions there would be a few answers as the conversation went back and forth

At this point, I feel like my OneNote email has become obsolete.

I don't want to wait until the email thread is 'complete' because these things can get resurrected over and over again and I want to complete my portion

While I LOVE OneNote's search functions, I don't want to add the whole message and append it to the existing page and I don't want a new page every time changes are made.

Ideally, the email in OneNote would update as the thread in OutLook "Matures", Or I could override the current page with the new information while keeping my notes.

I was wondering how many of you navigate these situations.

Thanks in advance for your guidance

Hello mnicolas745,

We apologize for a late reply and thank you for the detailed explanation.

Unfortunately, OneNote doesn’t have an option to save only updates of the emails when you send them from Outlook.

We understand the inconvenience and apologize for it, we suggest you leave feedback, so the developer team pay attention to this problem and maybe add this feature with the further updates. How do I give feedback on Microsoft Office?

I’m afraid that the only workaround is send the updated emails to OneNote as a new page and copy your notes from the old pages. Then you can delete the old pages.

We apologize if this reply doesn’t meet your requirement and appreciate your understanding.

Best Regards,

Igor

Let me know if the following helps

Step 1: I get an email and I use the "Send to OneNote" feature

    Image

Set 2: Once it's in OneNote, I begin to make notes

Step 3: There are updates to the original thread

My 1st choice is to use the RED line and add a new Page. I don't want to do this because I would now have multiple pages with the same or similar data see Image a below

My 2nd choice is to use the BLUE line and I would duplicate the thread in OneNote see Image below

    Table a

    Image

    Table b

I would like for the data to look like what I manually created below

This was a manually created example and in reality, this problem is exponentially larger.

    I hope this helps
