Third party apps cannot find Excel

Third part apps that require Microsoft Excel Object cannot load Excel, instead they bring an error saying they cannot find the location of excel or cannot open/access Excel.

I have tried several things but none of them could resolve the issue. Some of the things tried including uninstalling Office and reinstalling and Repair.

I also noticed that if I go to Start>Run> Type “Excel” and enter, Excel wont load. However, I noticed that If I do Start>>Run> Type “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16 \Excel” and enter, Excel loads up. Please see screen shorts below.

Error 1: Error I go to Start>>Run> Type “Excel” and enter

Error 2: Error from third party CAD software

Thanks for your reply. I have noticed that my registry seems to be missing some lines compared to the registry of a health PC.

Please see below screenshots of the registries of a PC that has issues with MS Office compared to another health PC. From the comparison it is clear that LocalServer32, ProgID & Path for automation are missing from the PC that has issues.

I guess something missing with registry.

Some of the things tried including uninstalling Office and reinstalling and Repair.

    if you have reinstalled office,

maybe require reinstall not only office but also windows.

    Hi Edwin,

Thank you for your reply. Please see screenshot of installed office below as requested. To answer your no 2 question, yes, I can open Excel and Word normally, but my biggest problem is that all the programs that require excel to run cannot operate. I have a CAD software and another software that use VB scripts to write to Excel however these programs are failing to access excel as mentioned before.

The reason why I also shared that I cannot open Excel via Start>Run> Type “Excel was to try and give out more information on how this issue was affecting other programs. Furthermore, another thing I noticed is that I cannot set my signature on outlook, when I click on "Signatures" to modify my signature nothing happens.

It is worth noting that my excel was working all along until one day I suspect it was after an automated update when it stopped working. In a nutshell all the Microsoft office programs appear to be affected in one way or another.

    Dear Joseph_934,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I went through your question, don't worry we can work together and solve the problem.

Now that you are able to open Excel via C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16 \Excel, I suggest you go to that location and create a new shortcut for Excel to check if that will help.

Further more, could you please provide the information below so that we can clearly understand your situation and proceed with troubleshooting?

    1. Please go to Control panel > programs > Programs and Features and take a screenshot of Office that is available?
    2. You mentioned you can't open Excel via Start>Run> Type “Excel. Does this mean that you cannot open Excel app normally?

We apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation. We look forward to your reply.

    Sincerely,

    Edwine | Microsoft Community Moderator
