"Process ID" NOT UNIQUE

Hi All,

I've come across with an issue whilst drawing a process map for my company. due to having many milestones I've drawn 4 maps in separate excel cross functional data sheets and imported to Visio to generate the map.

The number sequence I've used due to having many sub process is as shown here (10, 11, 12) and if a sub process occurs with a "Yes/No" decision, by a decimal I've gone to (10.1 , 10.2 and etc.) and if a sub process occurs within a sub process it was given as (10.1.1, 10.1.2 and etc.). But when uploading the excel, Visio gave an error message saying "required unique ID" on the process IDs with 10.1.2 (ID's with 2 decimals).

So I used a letter instead such as 10.1A instead of 10.1.1 ( substituted A to the last .1) and it worked for the entire sheet. But in the second sheet where i changed the entire process maps to the same numbering sequence with the letters were given the error as "ID required" in rows where the process ID consisted of letters. Keep in mind that the number before the first decimal number wasn't similar to number in the other sheets.

So I again changed the numbering sequence from 20.1A (which was initially supposed to be 20.1.1) to 20.101 (substituted "0" instead of a decimal) and it worked but E.g. if i used on 20.101 and went in to the number 21.101, it gives an error on the row containing 21 section in the same file that it isn't unique.

Please do help out as I'm struggling to find a consistent numbering format that VISIO accepts to apply throughout my separate files, and why does if one numbering format is accepted in one file and it isn't accepted in the other file ?

    Hello Kevin,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this behavior.

Unfortunately, when you create a Visio drawing using an Excel data, it requires the unique ID for every shape.

May I know if you tried to replace the decimals with the letter (for example 10.1.2 -> 10x1x2)

For better understanding of this situation, we kindly ask you to provide some additional information:

    1. What version of Visio do you use?
    2. Can you please share some screenshots of this issue?

    Best Regards,

    Igor

    Hi Igor,

I substituted Letters for one excel sheet as attached below and that worked. But on the second excel sheet when using the same format it says the ID isn't unique. (note that i used different numbers and letters but it still says not unique)

The version I use is as follows
