Power Query alert

With the latest Excel version (16.68) I start to get an alert that says "This workbook contains Power Query queries loaded to the Data Model, which can't be refreshed in Excel for Mac". Despite the alert, my queries still work fine and refresh normally. Even if I delete all my queries, the alert persists so it appears as if something is now corrupted in the file. As far as I can tell, everything works like normal except for the constant annoyance of the alert popping up every 30 seconds or so.

Hi Mia - Thank you for your reply. The problem seems to be isolated to one workbook and clearing the cache did not help. I have now copied the various sheets into a new workbook and re-made the power queries. This seems to work and the alert is now gone. My take is that somehow the Data Model in this particular workbook got corrupted and there was no obvious way to fix this. Another hint in this direction is that the Workbook Queries & Connections lists a number of connections that are not real and they cannot be removed or refreshed. In the new workbook, I only see the real connctions I have created and they behave normally. Again, the problem appeared when version 16.68 was installed.

    Hi

Are you sure there aren't other queries besides one or more to the Data Model?

You should not be able to do ANYTHING with the Data Model in Excel for Mac. Queries should not work. There is no ability to display the Data Model. You can't alter connections or queries to the Data Model.

Refresh might work, but there's no guarantee.

    Dear Christian,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Per the description shared, I would like to summarize your concern i.e. you have an Excel workbook where you have connected the data from a different source, and when you try to refresh the data connection, you encounter a prompt but the data connection keeps refreshing and works normally.

If my understanding is correct, as you mentioned the prompt encounters even after removing all the data connections in the Excel workbook, I would like to know whether you encounter the same prompt even after re-opening the Excel file. If yes, please check whether the same error prompt appears with other Excel workbooks with the data connections or create a new Excel workbook with a similar data connection to see the behavior.

If the problem happens with all the workbooks having the data connection, please try to clear the cache of the Excel app and see the outcome. Close the Excel app> Open the Finder> Click Command + Shift + G> Enter ~/Library/Containers> Scroll to the Microsoft Excel folder and move it to the desktop folder> Restart your Mac and re-open the Excel workbook to see whether you encounter the same problem.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Mia | Microsoft Community Moderator
