Heading format changes between app and sharepoint

I am working on a Word document. On the desktop app, Heading1 displays correctly. When I upload it to sharepoint, the format changes. Opening the document in sharepoint, Heading1 aligns to the right side of the page and becomes vertical.

I can change the indent to zero, and fix the issue temporarily. However, if I update the table, the problem returns. If I highlight the heading and right click on Heading1 in the styles menu, it gives the option to Update Heading to match selection. Instead of updating Heading1, it returns the formatting to vertical.

Is there a fix I am missing? Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Jason

If you are editing the document in sharepoint, chances are good that you are using the online version of Word. This is a different program.

Rather than relying on what you see in the app, what do you get if you print or produce a pdf? Is it still different.

When you click the option to update the style to match selection, you are changing the style.

The vertical heading1 conversion that occurred in Sharepoint would persist when re-opened in the desktop app. I may have found a solution. Using sharepoint, I corrected the indentation,on heading1, then changed the theme on the document. So far, the intended formatting has remained in place.
