Dear,

I have a file that, when I try to open, I get the message that the file extension or format is not valid. I believe the file is damaged.

It´s an important file for us and I ask for your help to try to recover it.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks in advance

    Hi MiguelRodrigues1962,

According to your description, it seems that you cannot open a file and encounter an error message.

It usually indicates the file is not compatible with the Excel version or the file has come corrupt or damaged. Given this situation, I want to give you suggestion below to check if its works:

1.Right click the file > Select Get Info > You can change the extension, such as xls.

2.Here is article to repair corrupt file: Repair a corrupted workbook

3.If you confirm the files are hosted with OneDrive for Business or SharePoint Online, you could check the methods below.

Check the version history, or  SharePoint online version history of that Excel workbook file, see if the content could be retrieved.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best regards

    Waqas Muhammad
