Pivot table slicer for month not sorted

Hi,

I have a pivot table (data model), and want a slicer for months, I inserted a month name and month number column through power query and then in power pivot sorted the month name by month number,

but neither are sorted correctly either in a slicer or in a pivot table; I did think to sort the Month number a

A-Z, but this causes all the Dates to be grouped by month Number not ascending ascending order, so not much use.

What am I doing wrong?

To answer my own question, I think I had not set the data type, so the date number was text instead of a number, that is the only thing I can think of.
