Microsoft Sharepoint Accidental Upload

While working I accidentally dropped a file into the "drag and drop" box into another organizations sharepoint I don't have permissions to change.

I closed the tab in an attempt to cancel the upload but didn't read the pop-up warning about closing the tab mid-upload. Currently the file no longer cycles as if uploading, I cannot open the full file, and one of my other co-workers was unable to view the file as existing in the sharepoint.

Is this file and my careless mistake displayed to other users?

Dear S_532,

Thanks for posting back.

For “I can see the broken file in the sharepoint”, I assume you access the SharePoint library in the browser. If so, other users who have the related view permission to this library/folder should also see this file.

Sincerely,

    George,

"According to your description, for “I cannot open the full file, and one of my other co-workers was unable to view the file”, do you mean you can’t open the original file or the file you copied to another organization?"

I am referring to the file copied to the other organizations sharepoint.

"Also, for your concern, if the file has been copied to another organization, the users in that organization will see this copied file. For your organization, the admin can use the Aduit log to find your action “copy file”."

The file didn't transfer fully as I closed tab mid transfer. The real question is that while I can see the broken file in the sharepoint, a coworker of mine with similar access cannot. Should I expect non-admin employees of the other organization to see my faux pas?

The other organizations admin involvement isn't concerning and I have to contact them to remove it as is.

    Thank you for the assistance.

    -S

    Dear S_532,

Thanks for posting in the community.

According to your description, for “I cannot open the full file, and one of my other co-workers was unable to view the file”, do you mean you can’t open the original file or the file you copied to another organization?

If you mean the original file can’t be opened, I would like to reconfirm if you can open it in the browser (go to the site in the browser and open the file). Normally, when you drag a file to a location, it will create a copy of the file to that location.

Also, for your concern, if the file has been copied to another organization, the users in that organization will see this copied file. For your organization, the admin can use the Aduit log to find your action “copy file”.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,
