Problems accessing the EAC environment: "Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft Services' and cannot access the application"

In my quest to change the retention policy of my personal junk folder I found out I needed to access the EAC environment to access the mailbox settings. However, when I try to login with my account I get the following error

I might be doing something stupid by trying to access the EAC as a personal user, but my main goal is to extend the default retention policy of my junk folder. The only solution I found was to do it through the EAC.
