Error Message "Refresh Recommended..."

Hi -

I am working on a powerpoint file that is saved in Teams. When I open the file in teams I get Refresh recommended - A newer version of this file is available on the server." and the option to either "Save a Copy" or "Discard Changes"

I have tried saving a copy, renaming the file and even discarding changes. I have deleted the file renamed the correct file and re-uploaded to Teams and still the old file appears. I have cleared caches on my computer and even updated my computer and this still keeps popping up. I have now wasted 4 hours trying to figure this out - can someone help?

If it helps, I am working on a Mac and have the apps downloaded to my desktop.

Thanks

Effie

    Dear Effie K,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft forum.

When this error bar appears, AutoSave turns off, and no more updates come in and you can’t resume coauthoring until you resolve this error.

Please try opening the said file from within the respective Office app. For this, open any Office app such as Word, click File>Open, select OneDrive for business or SharePoint online location and then click any Word document to open. Repeat the same steps in Excel and PowerPoint to check if you see the same error.

Besides, may I know if you are getting the error in a specific file? Please check other files to confirm.

Also, I will suggest you ensure your Office for mac apps are fully updated. The latest version i.e., 16.66.1 (22101101) and check if this makes any difference. To manually update Office apps, click Help > Check for Updates from any of the Office app to get the latest build.

If the version appears lower, then manually update Office apps, click Help > Check for Updates from any of the Office app to get the latest build. For some reason if Office apps still didn’t update, then please download the Update packagefrom this article.

If you still receive the error, please provide us with the following information:

    1. May I know your OS version? From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose About This Mac. You'll see the macOS name, such as macOS Catalina, followed by its version number.
    2. Please confirm the version and build of your Office apps application. To get this information, open any Office app, such as Word, go to the Word menu and choose About Word.
    3. Do you get the error in all the files opened from SharePoint or a specific one?

If you still need help, please let us know, we’ll be happy to assist you further. Stay safe and stay healthy.

    Sincerely,
