default app for hyperlink in Excel

I selected Photos as default app in windows 10 for .bmp files.

That works fine, but not so in Excel: If I create a hyperlink to a .bmp file in Excel, the .bmp file opens in Paint, whatever I do.

Any ideas?

    sorry Tim,

this is all to complicated for me.

If on my computer Photos is assigned to open .bmp files and clicking on a .bmp file opens accordingly in Photos, I should expect it does the same when using a hyperlink in Excel.

A hyperlink in Excel works fine with any other type of file (.jpg, .docx etc) but with .bmp it doesn't work.

There should be a solution to this surely?
