    Hi Cindy

You may try this formula and copy/fill/drag it down the rows

    =ROUNDUP(ROW(1:1)/26,0)&CHAR(IF(MOD(ROW(1:1),26)=0,26,MOD(ROW(1:1),26))+96)

It will fill 1a to 1z, then 2a to 2z, and so on...

I hope this helps you and gives a solution to your problem

Do let me know if you need more help

    Regards

    Jeovany

"Teach" your copy of Excel to be able to do this. Create a custom list going as high as you think you may ever want to go - here, I have 1a, 1b, etc. to 4z. Select the entire list as shown, then...

...under the File menu, select Options at the bottom. In the Excel Options window, select Advanced; then nearly at the bottom of the list, in the General section, select Edit Custom List. Your selected list will already be entered in the Import box at the bottom of the window.

Click Import; then OK, and OK once again.

From now on, you can type any letter in your sequence; then drag the quick-fill box (bottom right corner of a cell) down or right to continue the progression of your list; or drag up or to the left to enter a previous portion of your list progression.

    Dear Cindy,

Good day! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Unfortunately, we can’t insert automatic numberings with letters in Excel spreadsheet

We understand the inconvenience and apologize for it. To address your concern about the situation, we’d kindly suggest you leave a feedback in Excel: How do I give feedback on Microsoft Office?

As a workaround for this you may try to use a formula to combine the cells:

In a workbook column and insert the letters in alphabetical order.

In the column where you want to insert numbering type a formula. Please check the example below, in my example is =1&E1

Click on a cell and drag it down to auto populate the column:

    Sincerely,
